Mount Baker Morning

Looking Northeast
the sky over the mountains
is a smoke-hazed medley—
breathtaking beauty
lifting the heart.

To the North
the sleeping volcano
is but a shadow on the horizon—
silent and serene
rising from darkness.
From the East
the sun’s rays caress
creeping slowly from foothill to peak—
snow-capped splendor
welcoming a new day.

“Arise, shine;
for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord
has risen upon you.”[i]
Go and do likewise.
